Learning with Virginia Wedding Photographers Michael and Carina PhotographyΒ

This past year has been nothing short of absolutely amazing.

We have been so honored to have worked with some fantastic people, both clients and other wedding professionals and creatives.

We still have to pinch ourselves about being featured on some of our favorite sources of inspiration.

We recently announced our 2nd workshop (for which there are two seats remaining!), and the response has been awesome. However, we know that for some people a workshop just isn’t a possibility right now.

Now we want to give back.

The road to success is paved with hard work, it’s true, but we believe behind every successful person there are people supporting them and believing in them along the way.

At least, that is how it’s been for us – and this is one small way we can say thank you.

That’s why we’re so excited to offer T W O mentoring session scholarships with us via Skype or Google Hangout, at absolutely no cost.

For two hours, we’ll sit down with the winners and answer all questions (about film, metering, finding your niche market, interacting with clients, pricing, getting published), and we’re also open to reviewing your work or materials and offering helpful feedback where it’s needed.

Just follow the instructions below to enter and on February 16th, 2015 the winners will be selected! Please be sure to leave a comment below letting us know what you’d be excited to learn with us!

Thank you again for your support!

xoxo M & C

From the very beginning of my photography journey I have been SUCH a huge fan of your work. I couldn’t quite put my finger on the technical term for why I adored it all so much, but I was just so drawn to it. Every image. Your work is so cohesive and beautiful. I now realize that it was my adoration for the look of film. My wish is for my work to be my own, but have the same light, airy, magic that film creates. I only shoot my clients digitally for now, but with my mom’s old hand-me-down film camera, I am determined to study and fine tune the art of film. I have such a hard time trying to make my digital work emulate film and I’m hoping that soon it won’t be so hard, the hard part will actually be matching. I want clients to look at my body of work and just marvel at the simplistic beauty of it. Thank you so much for being such an inspiration! xo

I want to pick your brains on the basics of film, metering, any tips and tricks on the beautiful lighting and how to incorporate film into weddings. Crossing my fingers over here! I firstly just want to praise y’all for constantly giving back to the industry. I see it all over the different facebook groups etc. It is so cool to see. Secondly, the reason why I want to win a mentor session with you is to focus on vision. I STILL am struggling to figure out how to merge what I want to say with my client’s work. I’ve admired y’alls ability to find your way to what makes your hearts sing. It is consistent and beautiful. I would love some direction on how to get there.

Your work is beautiful, I LOVE your inspiring and steadfast love story, and my husband and I recently made the big decision to go into business together and we would love to learn from such an amazing husband and wife photography team that is not only making it work but THRIVING. I have had our photography business on my own for almost three years now and with Andrew getting out of the Navy in September we made the big and yet very scary decision to go all in and have him not look for another job while we make our business our only source of income. We are terrified and yet so excited and we would love to learn from an amazing couple whose work speaks for itself, whose posing is genuine and natural and who has made a successful life out of being full time photographers! We would LOVE this opportunity!

I hope to learn how you guys endured through the hard times when you first started. I know it’s passion, but more of how? When no one was interested in you because you were still learning and when you felt your work just wasn’t great. I’m wanting to learn how you have your photographs tell the stories they do just through looking at them, as well. I’m from Mississippi so there isn’t a lot of true heartfelt, real passionate photographers where I live. To win this would mean so much. I’ve always wanted to attend something like this in person but I’m still saving up from sessions to do that πŸ™‚ this would be an amazing opportunity and blessing… Thank you guys for what you do.. Giving us small time photographers from the middle of no where hope and reminding us it’s okay to follow our dreams!

    Good luck everyone!

When I first began photography I was strictly a film photographer. It was what I was most passionate about right down to the dark room. With a college student budget and only a dorm room space lacking dark room potential…I made the switch to DSLR. Now, 6 years later, I’m ready to return to my roots and dive back into the world of film. Your film work is absolutely amazing and I’d be blessed beyond belief to be able to relearn the old stuff and dig deeper into the stuff I didn’t know from one of the absolute greats of the photography world!

I would be honored to win a mentoring session by Michael and Carina! Ever since beginning photography, I have been following them on all forms of social media and their work is so inspiring! It truly reminds me everyday why I love what I do! I hope one day that I can be as amazing as these two, but until then, I would love to learn as much as I can from them. I wish I could sit down with them every single day, but even this mentoring session would be perfect. Learning everything that they are willing to share would help my business tremendously and then maybe I can wander the streets of Richmond some day and ask for directions and get recognized like a super star! It was so amazing seeing you two that day – I love you guys and I really hope to win this session!!

  82. Meredith Coe

    February 12th, 2015 at 8:11 pm

After shooting film for some time before going Pro. I have fallen away from it. I picked up digital once I started shooting weddings as an “easier” and “quicker” form. I miss shooting film and just need a push to get back into it. Your work is incredible and the eye for detail and emotion comes through in the images you shoot.
What I would like to gather from this opportunity would be tools and knowledge of stepping back into this format. I know it sounds pretty basic, but having this foundation would really launch me into shooting film again.
Thanks for giving everyone this amazing opportunity!

  83. Jess

    February 13th, 2015 at 1:39 pm

I really hope to learn anything and everything I can from you all. I would love to find a greater confidence for the photographer in me while interacting with clients and posing them naturally as well as. The struggle of being a younger photographer has me lumped in a sea of people assuming I don’t know what I’m doing. I’d like to break out of that and people see past my age with a mature client style!

  84. Alex Schon

    February 13th, 2015 at 5:51 pm

Hi! I’m Alex, and I’m a wedding photographer in Philadelphia, PA. Well, actually I’m a 19-year-old mechanical engineering student in college, but wedding photography is my business, my passion, and my job. I built my foundation of photography using film, but once I started shooting professionally, I shot digital exclusively. Lately, I’ve felt limited by digital, and am in the process of making the jump back into film. I’ve got the basics of it nailed down (exposure, film stocks, metering, etc.) but I’ve found myself a bit lost in making the switch – you two know more about the process than just about anyone out there. I’m hoping you could give some insight into choosing a lab & developing a relationship with them, how you use digital technology with your scans, how to separate yourself and market to the β€˜fine art bride’, and if there’s anything different in your shooting style from digital. The best way to learn would be going to your workshop, but at the moment that’s not possible for me. So, the next best thing is getting to talk to you, ask you questions, and finally get some guidance. I really, really appreciate you doing this! I absolutely love your work, and it feels even better knowing how generous you two are too!

Wow, seeing all of the beautiful entries above I’m not sure if I even stand a chance. I am so excited to enter this give away though and it would mean the world to me to win! I love your vision, the esthetic of your images, and the way your branding so seamlessly brings it altogether. Talk about inspiration….! About a month ago I was perusing your blog when I stumbled across a post answering photographer’s questions about film. First of all I was impressed with your generosity in sharing your knowledge as not many film photographers blog tips and tricks. It was awesome! My husband had purchased some film for me for Christmas, and I had largely ignored it until I stumbled across your blogpost. When I read your tips on just trying film out, and then getting the film developed inexpensively and just learning slowly, I decided to go for it! I did one shoot and this has been a catalyst for a new love affair into photography for me! I have to thank you guys for that! In the last month I have felt deeply inspired again, and I’ve been shooting as much film as possible. It’s like my love for photography was completely unearthed and brought back from the life! It’s so exciting! A mentoring session with you guys would be absolutely amazing, I know at this point of learning film it would be just amazingly valuable for me. As a mommy of a young little baby girl, it is not as feasible for me to get to workshops, so doing this would be a blessing in that way as well. Thank you so much for doing this give away, I am so excited and know whoever wins will be so encouraged, inspired by you both!!

Oh my sweet baby Jesus, I would LOVE TO WIN!! This is such an awesome opportunity. I would love to learn more about candid shots and how to interact with clients during the shoot to get truly amazing shots without looking too posed. I feel like my clients are always so relaxed looking in photos, but I also convince myself sometimes it’s because I get lucky with amazing clients. πŸ˜‰

    Good Day Michael and Carina,
I never want to stop learning, I am so passionate about Couples photography and education, I want my photography to show that.

I feel like I am at an awesome place to learn information that will give my work that extra special sauce you both are so great at capturing, editing and marketing.

My goals are to become a hybrid shooter by the end of this spring.
I’m holding my breathe until you announce the winners. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity.
