Education For
photographers

Workshops & mentoring sessions are always hands-on experiences where we offer practical answers with topics ranging from building your business to introducing film into your workflow.

We also share an detailed presentation regarding our own personal experiences - trials and errors, and successes we built upon.

We believe in building a strong community of professional photographers who are supportive and helpful of one another.

2019 found us in a season of change and growth at the start of the year, and it was in this spirit of renewal we went to Mexico in the Spring.

What we discovered in Tulum was a place of art, of inspiration, of passion, of music and tastes as vibrant as the people. What we discovered in Tulum we could go on describing, but we would rather show you ourselves. One of the only things we love more than experiencing new things is sharing enriching experiences with others. We have spent months planning this and as the end of summer draws close, we are now able to announce our next wedding & boudoir photography workshop, our first since 2017.

Photographers: we are hosting an intimate where we are guaranteeing no more than 15 attendees, split up into two groups during all shooting times. Janna Brown Design is bringing her inimitable taste and vision for design to Tribe House Tulum, where we will be hosting our workshop AND providing lodging for all attendees.

If you have any questions or would like to find out if this workshop might be the right one for where you are in your journey, email us at info@michaelandcarina.com or call Michael at 757.401.2551.

Will I need a passport?
Yes, unless you are a resident of Mexico, you will need a passport to travel to Cancun airport. Airfare to Cancun is pretty affordable from most US airports.

How safe is the area of the workshop?
Tulum is one of the most frequented cities in Mexico by tourists from around the world. Cancun is a nearby vacation destination for tens of thousands of tourists every year, too. Tribe House Tulum is located in the center of the city, and is virtually a fortress with high walls, gates, etc. We've been there ourselves and never felt unsafe. Part of the workshop will entail exploring Tulum in small groups.

I don't shoot film. Is this still a good workshop for me?
For years, we have welcomed photographers who shoot mainly film, mainly digital, or an equal mix of both. We welcome all artists excited to grow both with their art and their business as well!

“Their openness and willingness to speak about all things related to running a photography business is unparalleled. In an industry where ‘education’ can sometimes
come off as contrived, or even gimmicky, their candidness and approach is refreshingly authentic.
My meeting with them was the best investment I’ve made in my
business in years.” - Beth Tobelewski

“Michael and Carina are so down to earth, so giving, so open. I had a one-on-one session with them where they answered any question I could throw their way, and
they really just shared so much of themselves.” - Angela Newton Roy

"Not only was every detail of the styled bridal session enchanting, but the wealth of knowledge Michael and Carina disclosed to us was priceless.
I left the workshop with a renewed vision of who I wanted to be as a photographer and a business owner. They instilled a value in me to produce art - not just with
my photographs, but to give every client I interact with a 5 star, fine art experience. There is not a doubt in my mind that I am a better photographer now having
learned from these two.” - Bethany Snyder

“We covered everything from film stocks, labs, exposure, film gear, workflow of a hybrid shooter, film storage, making transition to film...
I left the session even more motivated by my goal to include film into business, and I felt better equipped with information about using film within my workflow as a
wedding photographer!” - Matoli Keely

“I went to their first workshop and it was amazing! Do whatever you have to do to attend. You will not regret it! Every aspect of your photography and business will
benefit.” - Logan Jerrard

“I now find myself constantly applying all that I learned. Attending the Little Workshop made me feel empowered.
More than ever, I feel that I can confidently apply all their teachings into the body of my work and business.
I am truly forever grateful to have had the opportunity to be taught by Michael and Carina.” - Denice LaChapelle, Editor of Embrace
